On Wednesday, May 15th, Ugandan musician Fik Gaza sparked social media discussions with a question directed towards social media personality Sheilah Gashumba. The post, which included a picture of Gashumba, simply read: "Has my bestie gotten something to eat today?"
This seemingly innocent message elicited a range of reactions from followers. Some saw it as a sweet gesture of care between friends, while others hinted at a possible romantic connection between the two. One commenter playfully remarked, "We all saw this coming," suggesting a budding romance.
Another commenter, seemingly less convinced of their purely platonic relationship, advised Gaza to focus on his musical talents: "First learn how to sing love songs; mukulu Oba onfunye" (a Ugandan phrase meaning "big man, compose yourself").
Gashumba and Gaza's social media interactions have fueled speculation about their relationship for some time. Gashumba has shared videos of them spending time together, and Gaza has previously revealed on Galaxy TV that Gashumba initiated contact in February. He stated that she messaged him directly to discuss a potential duet with Nigerian reggae star Patoranking, which Gashumba had publicly mentioned that same month.
Gashumba's enthusiasm for the collaboration was evident in a February 12th post exclaiming,
"Fik GAAAAZAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! I hope you know how talented you are!!!!!"
This post caught the attention of Ugandan music critic Kirya UG, who commented,
"Fik Gaaza is what we have been missing in the dancehall society, ono Ragga Kabinika akubba"
(meaning "Fik Gaza is what we've been missing in dancehall, that Ragga King will kill it"). Gashumba enthusiastically responded to Kirya, "Fik Gaza X Patoranking would be fire and I'm about to make it happen."
During the Galaxy TV interview, Gaza elaborated on the duet discussions, revealing that Gashumba had sent him screenshots of her communication with Patoranking. The messages reportedly involved debating whether Gaza would travel to Jamaica or Patoranking would come to Uganda for the recording.
The current status of the duet remains unclear. Additionally, Gashumba has yet to respond publicly to Gaza's recent social media post. This silence has further piqued the interest of online observers, leaving them to wonder about the true nature of their relationship.
It's important to note that Gashumba recently ended her relationship with boyfriend Rickman Manrick. Whether this development is connected to her interactions with Gaza is yet to be seen.
