It has been a while now since opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye was forcefully detained and kept inside prison. He was arrested in Kenya with his colleague Hajji Obeid Lutale on grounds of possession of illegal weapons.
According to the charges, Dr. Kizza Besigye was accused on having two pistols as well as eight rounds of ammunition and these are crimes he committed while in Kenya (Nairobi), Greece (Athens) and Switzerland (Geneva).
The arrest in itself was quite unfair as the opposition leader was abducted while in Kenya and later resurfaced in military court in Kampala Uganda. He was then remanded to Luzira Maximum Security Prison in Kampala, Uganda, where he continues to be detained as investigations into these allegations continue.
The nature of Dr. Kizza Besigye's arrest is clear evidence of violation of human rights as he was taken in without a clue of his crimes and the arrest was rather forceful at that.
Many people have come out to stand in solidarity with the legendary opposition leader, demanding for justice which they believe can only be achieved with his release.
Former leader of opposition, Mathias Mpuuga has also come out to give his opinion on this matter and he has therefore called for the release of Veteran Ugandan Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye.
Taking to his X account to give his view regarding Dr Kizza Besigye’s Case, Mathias Mpuuga has also called upon Ugandans to be vocal and express their political concerns with out fear or favor. He was quick to state that freedom, justice, and equality in Uganda are still lacking yet they are a very important virtue in any democratic Country.
Mpuuga mentioned that silence at a time when Dr. Kizza Besigye’s rights are being violated is also a sign of betrayal to him as an outstanding political figure in Uganda.
The politician also expressed his grave concern over the nature of arrest of Dr Kizza Besigye which was more of an Abduction rather than an arrest.
"It is 3 months since Kizza Besigye was kidnapped from Nairobi and has since been unjustly detained! No one can discount KB's contribution to the fight for freedom, justice, and equality in Uganda. Silence at a time when his rights are being violated is a sign of betrayal. Let's demand for his freedom". Mathias Mpuuga posted.
Despite the fact that many Ugandans are never in agreement with Mathias Mpuuga and his political views because of the 500 Million shillings incident, many have however come out to second his thoughts on the Dr. Kizza Besigye's case.
Do you think the voice of Ugandans is strong enough to cause a change when it comes to the case of Dr. Kizza Besigye?
