With the ongoing tensions in the Country regarding the politics and question of authority within Uganda, many people holding political offices have come out to show their discontent regarding the social media posts by Chief of Defense Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
This has also caused tension within the Parliament of the Country which saw the parliamentary Committee summoning Muhoozi Kainerugaba for questioning, something that sparked yet another debate. The General outright refused to show up, stating that he would rather arrest every Member of Parliament wishing to question him.
With the ongoing scramble, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) which is chaired by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has also come out and shown discontent regarding General Muhoozi's summoning.
They have gone ahead to announce plans for a peaceful demonstration which is scheduled to happen on February 10, 2025. The PLU stated that the major reason for this demonstration is to show their discontent with what they termed as "irresponsible politicking" by some Members of Parliament against their chairman General Muhoozi
The protest which will be spearheaded by Honourable Daudi Kabanda, is aiming at defending the reputation of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba who they allege has been a target of continuous political attacks.
According to Honourable Kabanda, PLU called on its members and supporters of General Muhoozi to turn up in large numbers to voice their discontent against Members of Parliament who have made it a habit to tarnish Kainerugaba's name.
“All Members of PLU and supporters of our Chairman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, we shall be staging a peaceful demonstration/protest on 10th Feb, 2025, against the irresponsible politicking of some Members of Parliament that have made it a habit to attack and tarnish the name of our Chairman. Come in big numbers,” he stated.
With opposition groups, majorly the National Unity Platform (NUP) frequently criticizing General Muhoozi’s political ambitions and public statements, it seems like PLU is unhappy with this and wishes to see it come to an end.
However much the supporters of General Muhoozi have praised him for his contributions to national security and development and state he has the ability to become the next President of the Country, the opposition still does not believe in his ability to be a good leader as he could even turn out to be worse than the current President.
The major question however is whether the planned peaceful demonstration will really be as peaceful as planned considering how the opposition leaders keep spitting fire.
