A total of 529 members of the 11th parliament have today recieved Ugshs 200m each, to buy new cars they'll use to undertake the legislative duties. On top of that, 26 ministers who're not Members of Parliament have also recieved money to buy cars.
While this might seem surprising, a number of Ugandans are dropping dead due to hunger, many health facilities are short of equipment and medical workers have not been paid for a while.
The issue of MPs being given new cars has been a subject of contention for a number of MPs especially those of the opposition camp. Will they take back the money? Will they use I to help the needy? Will they fall short and buy the cars? Time will always tell.
The speaker, Hon. Jacob Oulanyah and his deputy, Anite Among, will also recieve money to purchase cars that will help them run their duties smoothly. What do you have to say about the move? Has it come at the right time?
