Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero yesterday informed the parliament that 74 districts in the country do not have a government hospital. Putting this into context, Uganda has over 135 districts, meaning only 61 districts have a government hospital. Yes, only 61.
While this may seem a minor issue, the Covid_19 pandemic has been a very big taste to most of our government systems, the health sector being one of the greatly affected. The situation was etremely bad to an extent that public places like Nambole stadium were surrendered to house Covid_19 patients. In some remote areas, it was so bad that patients were walking miles to access health services.
The minister however explained that the govenment is going to do whatever it takes to ensure the whole country is covered with govenment hospitals. First priority however will be given to Island areas such as Buvuma and Kalangala and those that are densly populated, with population density of over 300,000 people such as Isingiro, Kakumiro, Oyam, Buyende and others.
So, dear reader, does your district have a government hospital or the blood of Jesus is enough for you and your family?
