Ugandan musician, Mesach Semakula also known as Golden Papa has come out to Mourn with the rest of the country, the demise of city tycoon Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige (BMK).
Bulaimu died in Nairobi Kenya on Friday morning after a 7-year-long battle with prostate cancer at the age of 67.
The fallen businessman was the owner of Hotel Africana in Kampala where Mesach Semakula was always a regular in terms of music concerts.
Mesach says, BMK has been his very good fan and friend on a personal level and because of this, he benefited as a musician whenever he had a concert to hold.
Mesach revealed that the hotel Africana owner used to give him his venue (Not for free ofcourse) but at a reduced price to enable him also make profits as a musician.
Mesach's last concert at Africana
Semakula Mesach held his last concert at the late's Hotel in 2019 June and the concert was called "Bwagamba Experience" which at first was feared to flop since a lot of musical concerts for some reason were poorly attended that year (you ask King Micheal, he will tell you)
A few days to the D-day, the "Bwagamba" singer invited the Kabaka of Buganda who accepted his invitation and this is how the concert did not flop according to entertainment pundits. This is because the Kabaka who is very loved by Ugandans would not attend the concert alone and therefore would come with an entourage of subjects.
BMK the hotel owner also got interest in the concert and called his friend Mesach on phone to do him a favour that day. The billionaire wanted the singer to sing for him, his favourite song titled "Kankutendereze".
BMK wanted this to hit back at haters who were announcing him dead at that time and in particular, The Red Pepper newspaper that had written about him being badly bedridden and at the verge of losing his life at his home in Naguru.

And indeed on that fateful evening in the Nile Hall at Africana, Mesach invited BMK to the stage in order to sing for him, his favourite song.
BMK came onto stage with his wife and other "big people" as we like to call it in Uganda and this is where they danced to Mesach's 2006 Kankutendereze hit song whose message rotates around thanking God for bringing someone from grass to grace in otherwords bringing someone from the deepest pits of poverty to a wealthy and meaningful life.

BMK's last words to Mesach
A few months ago in this Covid period, the Ugandan billionaire rang Mesach Semakula and thanked him for making a good song titled "Onkuba".
The song which was released a few months into the first covid lockdown had caught the interest of Mr BMK who watched its video in a Nairobi hospital where he has been living for the past few months this year.
This is how he called Mesach and on top of thanking him for the song well done, he asked him for when next he would like to stage a music concert at hotel Africana to which Mesach responded saying that he will stage a concert as soon as the president lifts the lockdown on the arts industry in Uganda.
