At the height f the first Coron Virus wave mid last year, health workers were some of the most exposed frontline workers and yet protective gears were very scarce but lives had tp be saved. Many of these doctors and nurses lost their lives while saving other people's lives.
One would say they died honorably and that they also died on duty. But the gist here is, nost of those that died and those who survived were actually never paid and still demanding Covid-19 facilittions till now.The government came out to promise compensation to the families of these doctors.
However, like many of the government's promises, this too has taken another twist. According to Uganda Medical Associatiion (UMA) General Secretary, Mr. Herbert Luswata, the government is to compensate families whose relatives (doctors) died after contracting the deadly Covid-19.
Oh yes you've not read it wrongly. For one to get the compensation money, the deceased had to have been infected. That basically means that those who risked to treat Covid patients, and later died of other causes, there's no compensation.
