Edin Terzic has resigned as the Borussia Dortmund head coach.
He has worked at Borussia Dortmund in several roles but was appointed as the permanent first team head coach in 2022.
It has been reported that Edin Terzic asked for his contract to be terminated and the club accepted his request.
Edin Terzic was Lucien Favre's assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund from 2018 until he replaced him as the interim manager when he was sacked in the second half of the 2021/22 season.
Edin Terzic won the DFB Pokal with Borussia Dortmund before he departed from the club. He returned to the club in 2022 and almost led Borussia Dortmund to their first league title since 2012 but Bayern Munich beat them to it on goal difference.
It was followed by a disappointing league campaign as Borussia Dortmund finished fifth in the league. Despite their poor league form, they managed to reach the UEFA Champions league final but were defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid.
However, Borussia Dortmund stil managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for next season as their efforts combined with other German clubs on the European stage saw the Bundesliga earn an extra spot for the new-format competition in 2024/25.
In a video message to fans, Edin Terzic said the following;
Even though it really hurts, I want to inform you that I will leave BVB today. It was a huge honour to lead this club to a DFB Cup final and recently a Champions League final. After our final at Wembley, I asked the club bosses for a talk, because I've been at BVB for over 10 years now, with five as a coach and two-and-a-half as head coach, and I have the feeling that our new beginning should also come with someone new on the touchline. After intense discussions, my feeling hasn't changed. I wish Borussia Dortmund all the best. It's not goodbye, but till next time.
Edin Terzic's overall record as the Borussia Dortmund head coach is 75 wins, 24 draws and 29 defeats from 128 fixtures.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl said the following;
We have been through a lot together, and I have really enjoyed working alongside Edin to achieve our goals. He will always be associated with our successes over the last few years, and I’m sure we’ll see each other again. Edin will now pursue his own path.
