In a document released earlier in the day, the Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni announced 10th/January/2022 as the date for re-opening of schools for the next academic year.
The announcement however came with some adjustments, to help accomodate all learners and to cover up for the two years learners spent home because of Covid-19. Among the changes, learners who were in P.1, P.2 and P.3 last year at the time of schools closure, have been promoted to P.2, P.3 and P.4 respectively come Januarry next year.
The same has been done to students who were in Senior one and Senior two. These too have been promoted to Senior two and Senior three respectively. About how the ministry plans on helping the thousands of learners who didn't get to study during the lockdown catch up, in the document the minister says the first term will be used to help learners catch up with all the missed lessons.
This has long been awaited by all the education stake holders, from school owners, parents and other service providers, given that many have been economically hit by the unprecedented invasion of the Covid-19 pandemic and many had closed business while others had turned the school buildings into other businesses.
