Far has gripped many netizens after learning that Uganda Communication Commission had summoned several television presenters of key stations over abusive language.
Following, OS Suna's complaints about being defamed by Kayz, who presents the leading entertainment news show, NBS Uncut, TV presenters have been treading carefully not to do a 'Kayz' during their shows.
However, the Uganda Communication Commission, in a press statement said that it had received complaints about several entertainment show presenters on Thursday.
Amongst these shows whose presenters have been invited to trade words with UCC include the following.
Live Wire (Spark TV)
Kapyaki (Kingdom TV)
Tik-Tak Sesetula (Dream TV)
Access (BTM TV)
Uncut Sabula and Uncut Kalakata (NBS TV)
Round About (BBS TV)
Poko Poko (Baba TV)
Short Circuit Sonsomola (Urban TV)
Kachumbali (Top TV)
Evening Zone (ABS TV)
Select E- Buzz (STV)
The commission notes that much as the TV shows and presenters are key players in the communication sector, their use of demeaning language ought to be stopped
“The Commission has specifically invited presenters as key sector players because it is alleged that the language and statements used by the presenters and guests are often abusive, demeaning, derogatory and contain unsubstantiated claims against different personalities.” part of UCC's statement reads.
Will The Shows Be Banned?
Netizens are fearful that the entertainment Shows may be banned off Ugandan airwaves altogether.
This happened to Urban TV's Scoop on Scoop whose host, Tina Fierce was accused of tarnishing the reputation of socialite Sheilah Gashumba.
However, experts claim that the shows are not likely to be banned because, just like UCC noted, they are more of a necessity than a nuisance.
In other news, comedian Patrick Salvador hailed OS Suna for starting the troublesome but necessary weeding out of arrogant TV presenters in the country.
"Love him or hate him. Suna is going to help shape the uncouth behavior of some presenters. Time to clean the house. Well done OS." he wrote on social media.
