In a press briefing on Monday, the faction of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, which operates from Katonga Road, declared that former FDC President Patrick Amuriat must face disciplinary action for actions that have tarnished the party's reputation.
Acting as the interim president, Lukwago addressed journalists and emphasized that during the delegates conference held last week, numerous resolutions were passed, one of which included taking disciplinary measures against Amuriat.
Lukwago stated, "We want to reiterate that the former party president (Patrick Amuriat) was suspended, and a resolution was made that disciplinary proceedings ensue. We are working on putting in place the necessary modalities to implement that resolution. You shall not commit a wrong and go scot-free. You shall not flagrantly violate the party constitution with recklessness and escape without any sanction."
He stressed that allowing Amuriat to escape without reprimand would be a betrayal of the core values that the FDC's founders championed.
"It will be a betrayal of this party's founders if one was left to violate the party constitution recklessly." Lukwago firmly stated,
At the delegates conference held in Busabaala last week, Amuriat was suspended as the FDC president, and Lukwago was appointed as the interim president for a six-month period.
Describing the leadership at Najjankumbi, where Patrick Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi have been leading, Lukwago insisted on Monday that his interim leadership is committed to reviving a party that, in his view, has faced significant challenges.
He stated, "We are leaving no stone unturned, burning the midnight oil, and working around the clock to execute the mandate entrusted to us. We were given six months within which to accomplish a lot. The party had been derailed by that gang. Our determination to bring back the party will not waver in the pursuit of the ideals enshrined in the party constitution."
Additionally, Lukwago announced a National Executive Committee (NEC) delegates conference scheduled for Thursday, September 28 at Katonga Road. During this conference, the electoral commission, chaired by former Nakawa MP Michael Kabaziguruka, will release a roadmap for fresh party elections, among other matters.
