Radio Simba's sister station Hot 100 Radio discontinued its broadcasting services on Friday 11th March 2021.
Through a statement posted on their social media platforms, Hot 100 radio imformed its ardent listeners that it wont broadcast on the frequency 100.9 MHz. At the time of its closure, Hot 100 had spanned over two decades. Its that radio station that revolutionized urban youth radio programming and most millenials related with it due its massive airplay of RnB and Hip Hop music that this generation fanced alot. At the time of halting its broadcasts, the Bukoto based stations audince and engagement had had severely dropped.
Hot 100 radio had one of the most controversial market entry. Its proprietor Isaac Mulindwa paraded skimply dressed fine girls dressed in red hot pants at all strategic rounds in Kampala giving out the radio flyers something that caused a stir. Hot 100 radio is credited for popularising music genres like Hip Hop and RnB aswell as bringing great on air personalities like Flavia Tumusiime, Tinah Fierce, Brian Mckenzie, DJ Gero, Captain DMS, Mason, King Shovon Malcom, Big Kahuna among many others.
Although the station announced closure on Friday, to date, the radio is operating via 100.9 frequency with uninterrupted music of various genres playing all day and night long. When COVID 19 hit, it came with a struggling global inflation which threatened economies, media companies were deprived of billions in advertising revenue. Most Human Resources at Media houses had to scale down on their employees due to this hit and for some just like Hot 100, they got to this point of closure. Dear Clients and Fans,
Over the last 20 years, we have entertained you – the young, wild and free – with a fresh mix of urban hip music, entertainment and news.
We pioneered a trendy Ugandan radio format that led to the rise of an urban home-grown music genre and culture – “Luga-flow”. Along the way, we popularized Ugandan hip hop artistes with radio airplay, concerts and dance parties.
While we have truly enjoyed doing this, we believe that the time has come for us to move on and perhaps continue to serve you in different ways, using newer and more efficient platforms. Platforms that may increase engagement and value.
Therefore, with effect from 11th March 2022, we will discontinue our official broadcasts as HOTIOO on the frequency 100.9 MHz.
To our advertisers, our team will be reaching out to you, to ensure that all reconciliations and contractual obligations are concluded, hassle-free.
We do thank you all for your support through the years, and for the confidence you placed in HOTIOO.
