On 30th April 2021, Eddy Kenzo released his album MADE IN AFRICA and had a listening party where he invited many celebrities like Sheila Gashumba, Spice Diana, B2C among others.
This album was inspired by legendary artists Kanda Bongoman and the late Phily Bongole Lutaaya.
The entire album has 21 songs such as Uganda oye, Moni(remix), soulmate, weekend, tugende among others.
Eddy Kenzo signed contracts with music companies such as Amazon Prime music, Spotify, Apple music, Tidal to have his whole album put there.
Every listen and download of his album will earn him some money.
This has been considered a smart move by Kenzo and his management because one will have to pay or buy the album for a certain amount.
Many websites offering free music haven't yet gotten their hands on his songs which means he will benefit from his hard work thus won't be complaining of poverty like his fellow artists.
A few videos have been put on YouTube including Weekend and Shakamo featuring Tribe Mark. These videos so far have 60,000 views
The Shakamo video has the same concept as his hit song that made him popular Siitya Loss. Kids in tattered clothing are seen dancing, enjoying the music, showing off their skills in dusty and slum like places somewhere in Uganda.
It is said that maybe that concept will help push the video since it is that concept that pushed his video of Siitya Loss and made the Ghetto kids popular to the point that they featured in music videos with American artists French Montana and Swae Lee.
Is this album a hit or miss?
After his hit song Sango with Martha Mukisa which has 1 million views right now, many expected this album to have hit songs.
However, many are disappointed. Music critic Eddie Sendi said he is "crying" listening to the entire album.
"All the songs are not good. I am yet to look for a one otherwise I am disappointed." He added.
Many other music listeners are disappointed calling the songs a "miss" but regardless wish him well.
However, a few of his die-hard fans like all the songs and believe he did a good job on this album.
As NowViba, we listened to a few of his songs and we believe Shakamo is our best with Tribe Mark doing a good job when it comes to the rapping. His entire verses were amazing.
The afrobeats used in all the songs are good and we clap for whoever produced the beats.
Whether the album was a hit or miss depends on the listeners and we do believe that the songs are fair.
