As the famous saying goes, the best way out is always through! Novelist and award winner Kakwenza Rukirabashaija may soon be acquitted of the charges against him as the Makindye Court Grade One Magistrate Irene Nambatya issued a release order for Kakwenza.
" The applicant should be released from police custody. Every police officer should comply with the above order." The release order read.
Kakwenza was arrested on 28th of December 2021 from his home in Kisasi and the vehicles that took him away were recorded as UBE 894M and UBH 163U. He was said to be detained incomunicado at Bukoto Crime Intelligence Facility where he has been totured mercilessly.
Kakwenza's lawyer Eron Kiiza filed a petition over injustice on his client and he said he was in an illegal one week detention without access to family members. Eron kiiza mentioned that his client had been arrested unlawfully and violently and he went ahead to quote a tweet from Gen. Kainerugaba the UPDF Commander of Land Forces on December 29th 2021 revealing his plans to arrest Kakwenza.
" I want the arrest of @kakwenzaRukira to be a lesson to all those who think they can Abu me on social media and walk away Scot free. Whereas we have freedom of speech in Uganda, there should be a limit." The tweet read.
Eron Kiiza mentioned that his client has been tortured in police custody and he needs immediate medical attention.
" He is urinating blood, he has swollen legs. He has been tortured and he needs urgent medication and counselling." Said Eron Kiiza.
He however mentioned that he is unsure whether the government shall adhere to the release order or forcefully take Kakwenza to court. A one Chris Magezi has however discerned Muhoozi's tweet as fake news and has rendered Kakwenza's application for a release order senseless because of the poor evidence provided by the lawyer Eron Kiiza. He considers it foolish to use the simple tweet of Muhoozi as evidence to have the Novelist released.
