Preparations are underway for the highly anticipated theater play 'Cease Fire,' a project initiated by the late Paul Kato Lubwama, as actors, actresses, comedians, friends, and family of the renowned playwright gather to bring his vision to life. Lubwama had envisioned the play as a means to revive the glory of theater in Uganda.
Before his untimely passing, Kato Lubwama had assembled a team of legendary theater figures, including Charles Ssenkubuge Siasa, Amooti Omubalanguzi, Phillip Luswata, and Mariam Ndagire, for the ambitious 'Cease Fire' production. Regrettably, he was unable to fully execute his plans.
Determined to carry forward Lubwama's legacy, the dedicated team has decided to proceed with the play according to his original agreement. Speaking at a press conference held at Serena Hotel on Monday, Charles Senkubuge, the chairman of the play, expressed how Lubwama had approached him with a compelling idea aimed at drawing people back to the theater.
"Kato Lubwama approached me with the idea, and I saw the significance in it. Recognizing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the theater industry and the need to reignite public interest, we also realized that Ugandans are facing numerous challenges. Therefore, we engaged other stakeholders to ensure the realization of this project," Senkubuge explained.
In a remarkable show of dedication, the organizers have not only committed to staging the play as planned but have also decided to embark on a series of performances that will traverse the entire country. This move reflects their unwavering commitment to reaching a wider audience and promoting theater beyond the capital.
The main show of 'Cease Fire' is scheduled for August 27, 2023, and will take place at Serena Hotel Kampala, organized by Biggie Events. The prestigious venue and the reputable event organizers guarantee a remarkable production that promises to captivate audiences and honor the legacy of Kato Lubwama.
With the staging of 'Cease Fire,' the theater community in Uganda hopes to rejuvenate the art form and reignite the nation's love for live performances. The play serves as a poignant reminder of Kato Lubwama's passion for theater and his unwavering belief in its power to inspire, entertain, and foster social change.
The cast, crew, and supporters are determined to bring back the glorious days of theater, preserving Lubwama's memory and making a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of Uganda.
Tickets for 'Cease Fire' will be available for purchase soon, offering theater enthusiasts and the general public an opportunity to witness the realization of Kato Lubwama's final artistic endeavor.
