    • April 10, 2022 • 3 years ago

The people of Nothern Uganda and the rest of the country paid their last respects to the late speaker, Hon. Jacob Oulanyah before he was finally laid to rest in the evening of Friday, 8th/04/2022 in Omoro country, at a function graced by many dignitaries from all walks of life.

While many mourners attended the late's final send off, it was feared that many of the opposition leaders, National Unity Party (NUP) members in particular were not to be allowed to attend the burial because of allegations tht they fueled the protests in Seattle where the late had been rushed for medication.

The Party leader, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert was not in the country by the time of the burrial, he had flown to Geneva, Switzerland for a peace summit. He however travelled straight to Gulu, to pay his respect and pass on his condolences to the family and people of Gulu and in his socila media post, he spoke of how warmly he was welcomed and applauded the people of Gulu fo showing him such love.

"Last night, I returned to Uganda and travelled early morning to Gulu to deliver my condolences over the loss of Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah whose burial I was unable to due to pre-scheduled engagements I had in Geneva - Switzeland. I was warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister of Acholi, the Rt. Hon. Olaa Ambrose at the Ker Kwaro Acoli (Acholi Cultural Institution).

Thereafter, we had an amazing lunch with several elders, among whom were the retired Supreme Court justice, His Lordship Galdino Okello Moro, Mrs. Mego Rosalba Oywa, Rt. Hon. Francis Mawa, the Prime Minister of the Puranga clan (to which the late Jacob Oulanyah belonged) and many other distinguished elders.
We also paid a courtesy call on His Grace Archbishop John-Baptist Odama of Gulu Archdiocese."

Kyagulanyi went on to thank Ambassador Otunu who masterminded the trip and also hosted him and the team in his home. He spoke of the great hospitality displayed by the Acholi people and that he envisions a great Uganda where people live in harmony irrespective of tribe.

"I am extremely humbled by the hospitality of the Acholi people. I feel so much at home that whenever I am in Acholi land, they don't call me Kyagulanyi; they call me Ogen. May God bless this our nation, and may the soul of Rt. Hon. Oulanyah rest in eternal peace." reads the post.
