Westham United's Lucas Paqueta was charged with four counts of spot fixing last month after being accused of deliberately getting booked in Premier League matches.
If found guilty, the FA want to ban him from football for life but Lucas Paqueta insists he is innocent.
Kynan Isaac, the Stratford Town defender, was given a ten year suspension for betting on himself to be booked in an FA Cup tie in 2021.
Bradley Wood, the Lincoln City defender, also received a six year exile for deliberately getting a yellow card on two occasions in another FA Cup betting scam three years ago.
It has been reported that Lucas Paqueta's alleged offences are even more serious.
Reports claim the 27 year old deliberately got bookings in four Premier League games. The games were against Leicester City in 2022, Aston Villa, Leeds United and AFC Bournemouth all in 2023 to enable his friends to make money.
The lowest bet placed on the Brazilian to get a yellow card was £7. It is said that around sixty people placed bets on Lucas Paqueta to be booked in one or all of those matches with stakes ranging from £7 to £400. £100,000 were the combined winnings from all the placed bets.
The bets were placed on Paqueta Island off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. This sparked an investigation which resulted in the FA's charges of spot fixing. To Westham United's disappointment, their main shirt sponsor Betway, were the first gambling company to sound the alarm over the suspicious betting patterns.
Investigations begun last summer after the FA received an integrity alert from gambling companies because of the unusual number of bets placed on him to be booked traced to the island where he was born.
Lucas Paqueta's lawyers were granted more time to formally respond to the charges but the case is not expected to proceed to hearing for several months and it is likely to take even longer since Lucas Paqueta's career is at stake.
Westham United have serious concerns over Lucas Paqueta's mental well being since he has been left devastated by the charges.
The player has returned to Brazil and hopes to play in the Copa America this summer.
The alleged charges have also interrupted his transfer to Manchester City as the Premier league champions were going to sign him this summer.
