MP Ssegirinya wants court to force prisons to present him to court - Lawyer Malende
    • November 15, 2021 • 3 years ago

Kawempe North Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya alias 'Mr. Update' has through his lawyer and fellow NUP member Hon. Shamim Malende requested the court to force Uganda Prisons that's holding Ssegirinya custody to avail him before court.

The Kampala Woman MP said that her client who's currently bedridden in Mulago hospitals over injuries incurred during his re-arrest about a month ago is wondering why he's being denied to appear in court so he can push for bail. Ssegirinya was re-arrested while he was leaving Kitalya prison and charged with new cases, including calling out people on social media to stage riots. Since then, he has been denied bail, despite on some occasions being presented to court in a very critical condition.

It reached a point when Leader of Opposition called out the government for neglecting the Honorable despite his critical health conditions. This saw the Prime Minister Rt. Hon.Robinah Nabbanja and speaker of parliament Hon. Jacob Oulanyah pay a visit to him. Court has however watered down Malende's request of immediately bringing her client to court and push for his bail and said Ssegirinya will be presented to court on the 2/12/2021. Looks like we have to wait for more three weeks to know whether Ssegirinya will get the bail or remain in prison.
