National Unity Platform (NUP) MPs Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana are to spend the festive season in jail, after being denied bail for the nth time earlier today by the Masaka Court judge. The two have been told to return to court on the 5th of January 2021.
According to Maska Court Judge, Nantege Christine, the case of the two couldn't be attended to today because the prosecutor Birivumbuka Richard didn't turn up. The two MPs Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya are being accused of participating in the Masaka murders that happened in August that saw many innocent people lose their lives.
Kampala Woman MP Hon. Shamim Malende, who's also the lawyer of the two, told reporters that the case has been poorly handled because it's the same prosecutor who requested for today but it is appaling that they couldn't turn up. She also expressed how hard it is to access her clients who are never in the respective places she's sent to.
"Everytime I want to access my clients I find a hard time. When I want to see Hon. Ssegirinya, I'm directed to Kigo prison and on reaching there, I'm told to go to Luzira maximum prison and the cycle continues. My clients are in very critical condition and need urgent medical attention." Said Hon. Malende.
The Masaka Judge however said that the MPs have a right to get medical attention and ordered the respective prisons where the two are kept t ensure they get medication as soon as possibe.
