A highly entrepreneurial Ugandan yesterday sold grasshoppers, a first of its kind on a Uganda airlines aircraft that was leaving for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
The man who has been identified as Ronald Mubiru is a 27-year-old Ugandan citizen that normally plies the Entebbe Dubai route with an aim of buying cargo from UAE on behalf of Ugandans back at home.
So here he was yesterday on another flight which he decided to make unique by selling freshly cooked grasshoppers in the aircraft's cabin to fellow passengers shortly before the plane became airborne (left Entebbe).
He was selling each scoop at exorbitant prices if one is to compare to our local grasshopper vendors back in Kampala. Each scoop was going for a whooping UGX. 10K meaning for you to have a kavera-full of grasshoppers, you would have to spend over UGX. 100K
Generally, the passengers in the cabin were very amused by what was going on and readily supported Mubiru, handing him foreign currency to support his business.

But how did a man get on a plane with grasshoppers
Mind you, Mubiru got on the plane with an entire sack of grasshoppers! and this is quite contrary to the guidelines followed by most airlines of not accepting food items on board in the non-cargo section where passengers sit.
A lot of other airline companies don't even accept a mere bottle of water on board and require you to leave it at the airport if you're still interested in travelling with them.
So how the blue coloured sack of grasshoppers by passed the xray scanners at the airport without anyone raising an alarm is something to wonder about for the next couple of years.
The Uganda Airlines management and the public reacts
Most people were okay with what transpired that day saying that the grasshoppers were selling Uganda's food delicacies to the world since people from other countries are not aware of existence of such food.
Others said it was pure shame like Kyeyune on twitter who had this to say;
"Selling nsenene aboard Uganda Airlines is not BUBU. It is plain stupid and whoever allowed them on board deserved to be suspended. Also, just because you like nsenene that doesn't mean the whole world does. Some of us can't even stand how they smell."
The Ugandan airlines management on the other hand was however impressed by how its passengers on that fateful Friday afternoon seemed to appreciate the cooked grasshoppers on sale saying that the airlines will consider adding the insects on its menu on all its regional and international flights.
But the management also said that they do not support the manner in which the grasshoppers were on sale saying that it is inappropriate and disruptive to the other passengers on board who came to enjoy a peaceful flight
The airlines further stated that the next time someone engages in unruly market behaviour like Mubiru did (selling grasshoppers), they will be offloaded off the aircraft like a sack of beans without further consideration.
Mubiru Apologises
In a statement full of P.2 (broken English), Mubiru apologised to the entire nation, passengers and management of the airlines saying that the incident will not repeat itself again.
He also added that he was not selling grasshoppers for economic gain but rather to make comedy for the Tik Tok, the latest social media platform disturbing the online space in Uganda.
