For about a week now, word has been going around of a new bill set to be passed that grants government access to take ownership of money in bankss and mobile money accounts that has not been used for a given time frame.
According to the proposed bill, government will be abble to access citizens' money after 7months of not being used. This money will then be used to sponsor government programs.
While Ugandans have been running riot over the move seen by many as another 'money laundering scheme,' finance minister Matia Kasaija has come out deny these allegations.
"I have not received any information regarding that proposal and even if I were to receive it, I would toatally be against it because it's day light robbery of the common Ugandan." Said minister Kasaija.
But well, that's not the first time politicians/government officials have openly denied information and it ends up being passed, better yet denying it when it has already been enacted. Let's hope the finance minister won't 'eat' his words like many do.
