No force was used in arresting Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana - Brig Gen Byekwaso

Yesterday, after court had allowed the release of Kawempe North Member of Parliament Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya alias 'Mr. Update,' on bail, he was re-arrested again while he was being driven away by lawyer and fellow NUP member Hon. Shamim Malende.

In a scene that seemed like a shooting for 'fast and furious,' the Kampala Woman MP drove off at light-speed as security cars were spotted coming after her car at a crazy speed until she was surrounded and Hon. Ssegirinya was forced to enter the drone.

Much as he (Ssegirinya) was seen shouting "afande I'm sick" according to the released clip, the officers who seemed furious kept commanding him to enter the car while trying to disparse the masses that were mostly journalists.

However, earlier today, the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso came out to announce that she knows not of any man handling of the MP.

"I don't know if there was high handedness in arresting MPs because I wasn't there but if it happened, it's very unfortunate. If someone is not resisting arrest, there's no reason to use force," - UPDF Spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso.

Ssegirinya has faced the same fate his party member Allan Ssewanyana faced as he too was re-arrested while leaving Kigo prison after being granted bail. The two were being accused of spearheading the Maska killings.
