President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has staunchly defended Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, against social media attacks regarding alleged corruption and misuse of funds within Parliament. Speaking at Emokor Grounds in Bukedea, President Kaguta Museveni emphasized that the real issue facing Uganda is not the Speaker or Members of Parliament, but rather traitors working for foreign interests.
Addressing residents, President Museveni condemned those criticizing Among, asserting that the focus should be on exposing individuals collaborating with foreign entities, particularly those with detrimental agendas such as promoting homosexuality and imperialism. He assured that intelligence agencies are actively monitoring these activities.
President Museveni commended Among for her collaboration with the government and urged Ugandans to engage in income-generating activities for improved livelihoods. He emphasized initiatives like Entandikwa, NAADS, and Operation Wealth Creation to alleviate poverty, along with the importance of free education to combat ignorance.
Regarding social media scrutiny of Among, Museveni stressed accountability and cautioned against unnecessary criticism, encouraging dialogue instead. He also rejected a proposal for creating another constituency in Bukedea, citing concerns about the size of Parliament.
Highlighting environmental conservation, Museveni advocated for sustainable practices such as fish farming and discouragement of rice cultivation in swamps to combat climate change.
During the commissioning of Bukedea Teaching Hospital and College of Health Sciences, built by Hon. Anita Among, President Museveni praised her for innovative contributions to healthcare and education. He acknowledged her accountability in utilizing funds and lauded her efforts in transforming the region.
Speaker Among expressed gratitude to Museveni for his support, noting his contributions to establishing Bukedea Comprehensive School and the hospital. She highlighted the hospital's community-oriented approach and its role in fostering economic growth.
Government officials, including Minister of State for Primary Education Hon. Joyce Moriku Kaducu and Minister of State for Health Hon. Anita Kawooya, commended Museveni's vision for healthcare development and Among's leadership in realizing it. NRM National Vice Chairperson-Eastern Uganda, Capt. Mike Mukula, praised Among as a key figure in NRM and a catalyst for political change.
The event, attended by various dignitaries including Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon Rukia Nakadama and Government Chief Whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, underscored the significance of the hospital in advancing socio-economic progress in Bukedea and beyond.
