President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a call to action for Ministers and Members of Parliament to vigorously promote wealth creation strategies across Uganda in meeting held at his farm in Kisozi, Gomba District.
The President stressed the critical need to shift towards a money economy and enhance household incomes as a means of eradicating poverty.
This call was made during a significant event where Museveni hosted the leadership of the three arms of Government and the Cabinet. The gathering reaffirmed the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) dedication to a wealth creation strategy that has already yielded positive outcomes.
Museveni shared his longstanding efforts against poverty, which began in the 1960s, particularly in the Ankole sub-region where he promoted settled agriculture over nomadism.
"I encouraged the cattle keepers of Ankole to transition from nomadic practices to dairy farming," Museveni recalled. "
This transformation led to a notable reduction in poverty throughout the cattle corridor, influencing areas such as Isingiro, Mbarara, Kiruhura, Lyantonde, Sembabule, Gomba, Kyakwanzi, Kiboga, Ngoma, and Masindi."Museveni Stated
The President highlighted the success of these initiatives in generating household incomes in the nine villages of Gomba and Sembabule districts.
"These efforts have shown tremendous success," he stated in a social media post. "We must extend this strategy nationwide to pull more Ugandans out of poverty and integrate them into the money economy."
Following the strategic discussions at Kisozi Farm, Museveni and his Ministers proceeded to hold a public rally at Kisozi Primary School in Gomba District. Here, beneficiaries of the NRM’s wealth creation programs shared their inspiring stories, detailing how their household incomes have seen significant improvements due to these initiatives.
The rally saw the attendance of several high-profile leaders, including Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Vice President Jessica Alupo, and Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, along with various ministers and MPs.
Their participation underscored the government’s collective commitment to fostering wealth creation and promoting commercial agriculture as vital elements of Uganda’s economic growth.
Prominent political commentator and economic analyst, Dr. Sarah Kagingo, remarked on the significance of Museveni’s approach:
"The President’s consistent advocacy for wealth creation through commercial agriculture is pivotal for Uganda’s development. His emphasis on practical solutions and firsthand demonstrations at his farm sets a powerful example for other leaders to follow."Critics,
However, argue that while these initiatives are promising, their long-term success depends on consistent implementation and support from all levels of government. They stress the need for sustained efforts and resources to ensure that these programs reach the most impoverished and remote areas of the country.
As Uganda continues to strive for economic progress, President Museveni’s call for a nationwide adoption of wealth creation strategies serves as a crucial step towards achieving widespread financial independence and reducing poverty. The leadership’s active engagement in these initiatives will be instrumental in transforming Uganda’s economic future.
