The development of this Katuna boarder re-opening comes after an official visit by Uganda’s Presidential advisor on Operations and Commander of Land forces Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to Rwanda on 22nd of January 2022. Its during this visit that Muhoozi, who doubles as Uganda’s first son met with Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame and an agreement to have the boarder opened was reached. At the time of this boarder closure, Rwanda accused Uganda of abducting and detaining its citezens.
The Ugandan authorities however denied the accusations trashing them down the bin. All along this time, movement of people from one country to another between the two was affected something that affected Ugandan students studying in Rwanda and vice versa.
