Forum for Democratic Change member and former Kamuli Woman MP contestant Salam Musumba today withdrew her case she had filed against former Parliament speaker Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga who is currently occupying the Kamuli Woman MP seat.
Musumba had initially filed the case at Jinja high Court with claims that the election was filled with vote rigging, buying off of voters among others and that she was the rightful Woman MP of Kamuli district.
However today, Jinja High Court judge, Mr. Sserunkuma declared Hon. Kadaga as the rightfully elected Woman MP of Kamuli district, following Salam Musumba's withdrawal of the case. In her words, Musumba claimed there has been constant threats towards her witnesses and that's one of the reasons why she withdrew the case.
"For the wellbeing oof the people of Busoga and the country at large, I've decided to withdraw my case I'd initially filed. My witnesses have also faced constant threats from unidentified people. So such are the reasons why I'm withdrawing the case." said Salam Musumba.
The Judge however ordered Salam Musumba to compensate Kadaga and her lawyers for the losses they incured. Kadaga's legal team have requested for UgShs 1bn in form of compensation, which Salam Musumba said she'll pay with the help of her supporters.
