The National Unity Platform has decided to fire Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a k.a Bobi Wine from the party's leadership and have decided to replace him with Moses Nkonge Kibalama during their delegates meeting that happened at Jevine Hotel, Kampala. Kibalama has been tasked to take over NUP leadership for two years.
Kibalama has long sought however, to win the party back from the hands of Kyagulanyi over reports that he had failed to pay him Shs18bn, the ‘selling price’ for the party.
Bobi Wine who was the 2021 presidential candidate under National Unity Platform, was appointed the party’s Foreign Affairs Secretary, hence a demotion. He is not the only one who lost his position however as there was a whole reshuffle in the NUP cabinet at large.
Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya was also fired hence he has been succeeded by Simbwa Kagombe and Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi who will also be replaced by Gideon Tugume as party spokesperson. Benjamin Katana has also been replaced by Jimmy Ssasi Waiga as treasurer for National Unity Platform.
Bobi Wine , Rubongoya and others were accused of failing to offer proper leadership, steering the party in the wrong direction due to all the conflicts NUP has been involved in since Kyagulanyi became president of NUP and of flouting a memorandum of understanding that saw the rebranding of National Unity Reconciliation and Development Party (NURDP) to NUP in 2019.
