Juventus has appointed Thiago Motta as their new head coach on a three year deal.
He has replaced Massimiliano Allegri.
Juventus dismissed Allegri after the Coppa Italia final, the club made the following statement;
Juventus announces that it has relieved Massimiliano Allegri of his position as head coach of the men's first team. The exoneration follows certain behaviours during and after the Coppa Italia final that the club deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus and the behaviour that those who represent it should have. It ends a period of collaboration, which began in 2014, restarted in 2021 and ended, after the previous three seasons together, with the Italian Cup final. The club wishes Massimiliano Allegri good luck in his future endeavours.
Though Allegri was dismissed, he is one of the most successful managers in the club's history. He first took over in 2014 before leaving in 2019, winning Serie A five times in a row, as well as losing in two UEFA Champions League finals. He returned in 2021 but was unable to compete with the two Milan teams and Napoli in the race for Serie A. However, he secured Champions league football for the club after a seventh-placed finish in the 2022/23 season.
Thiago Motta led Bologna to a third place finish in Serie A last season. He has signed a three year deal with Juventus which runs until 2027.
Under the guidance of Thiago Motta, Bologna won 18 of his 37 matches and qualified for the Champions League. Bologna has not played in Europe's elite competition since the 1964/65 campaign when they lost the preliminary round to Anderlecht on penalties.
Thiago Motta begun his managerial career at the Paris Saint Germain youth set up before taking his first senior role at Genoa in 2019.
He also managed relegation threatened Spezia in 2021 and guided them to Serie A safety with a game to spare which earned him the Bologna job.
As a player, Thiago Motta won eight league titles with Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain and Inter Milan. He also won the UEFA Champions League twice.
Thiago Motta made the following statement after joining Juventus;
I am really happy to begin a new chapter at the helm of a great club like Juventus. I thank the owners and the management, who can be sure of my ambition to keep the Juventus flag flying high and to please the fans.
