UBLs Bell ObaFest Attracts Over 6,000 Attendees, Promotes Responsible Drinking and Environmental Sustainability

KAMPALA, UGANDA | Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) showcased its dedication to responsible drinking during this year’s Bell ObaFest, emphasizing moderation, zero tolerance for drunk driving, and environmental sustainability through eco-friendly waste management practices.

The three-day festival generated 2 tonnes of waste, with 56% recycled and 44% repurposed for animal feed, according to waste management partners Asante Waste Management.

UBL’s responsible drinking campaign included a variety of engaging activities and safety messages aimed at encouraging moderation among attendees. Participants engaged in quick questionnaires and trivia sessions to reinforce the importance of responsible drinking.

As part of this initiative, UBL, in partnership with Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda, distributed over 2,400 bottles of free Rwenzori Water to ensure attendees stayed hydrated, with water dispensers set up at all beer-serving points.

Brenda Kobutungi, UBL’s Corporate Relations Manager for Positive Drinking, emphasized that the company’s commitment to consumer satisfaction extends beyond great beer to creating safe and enjoyable experiences. “While people enjoy our diverse drink offerings, we aim to ensure they do so responsibly. Our teams encouraged hydration for every 2-3 beers consumed, and our partnership with Safe Boda helped discourage drunk driving,” Kobutungi noted.

Bell Lager Brand Manager Lilian Kansiime praised the festival's responsible drinking initiatives, highlighting the importance of safety and moderation. “This year’s Bell ObaFest perfectly blended entertainment and education, with over 3,000 participants engaging in our Wrong Side of the Road anti-drink driving campaign. We’re proud to have created an enjoyable environment while reinforcing the importance of safety,” Kansiime shared.

The festival also featured a range of games, including basketball, football, darts, board games, and karaoke, providing entertainment while promoting responsible drinking. Winners of these competitions received prizes such as vacuum cups, water bottles, umbrellas, and shirts.

A key highlight was a survey completed by 3,060 participants, designed as an interactive tool to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and to enhance the festival’s focus on safety and responsible drinking.

Through these initiatives, UBL demonstrated its commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable festival experience for all attendees.
