While flagging off the Covid-19 marathon that was staged by Cabinet Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Mary Karoro Okurut, former presidential aspirant under the Go Forward Movement and also former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi requested goevernment to make Covid-19 vaccination mandatory.
In his words, Amama Mbabazi made it clear that the only way the country will get back to normal and reduce risks of going into lockdown is by Ugandans being vaccinated on a compulsory basis. He went on to add that all unvaccinated people should be barred from accessing all public places like schools, hospitals, markets among others.
This comes at a time when the cases of the new Omicron varioant are increasing, and at the moment 28 people have tested positive for the variant. The former minister's request however stands more contention, gven there's no clear law that forces Ugandans to go for vaccination of any diseese, although he's not the first one to propose such.
And as all this is being said, Ugandans remain focused on what the president has been saying since he lifted the previous 42days lockdown. The president has since then been telling Ugandans that come January next year, he will open up the economy whether all eligiblepeople have been vaccinated or not.
The country has been in partial lockdown since March of last year when the first cases of Covid-19 were discovered in the country. Among the greatly affected sectors are Education and the entertainment sector, with the later having been closed since then. One would then also ask, who does Amama Mbabazi talk as if he's no longer part of the government? Is there something we're missing?
