Reknown opposition politician Dr. Col. Kiiza Besigye Kifefe has for the past days taken over the media attention, thanks to his "wake up" demonstrations towards the hefty commodity prices that keep rising every day that goes by.
Besigye was first arrested and detained in his Kasangati homestead as he tried to drive towards Kampala city where he planned to hodl his "peaceful protests." Days later after his release, Besigye got arrested from Arua park on Tuesday, trying to mobilise crowds to again protest the commodity prices, especially fuel.
He was then charged with inciting violence by Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha and was charged 30m Ugshs as bail for him to be released, which Besigye declined. He was then remanded to Luzira police station yesterday.
While addressing the media earlier on today, Besigye's lawyer who doubles as the Lord mayor of Kampala city His Lordship Erias Lukwago expressed his resolves, stating that the 30m bail money is too much for such a "small" case.
"The highest bail money ever asked was 20m, which was asked for Hon. Ssewanyana and Hon. Ssegirinya. But they were being charged capital offences like like terrorism, murder among others. But someone who is bing charged a small crime of inciting violence and you ask for 30m bail?" exclaimed Lukwago.
He farther stated that they've moved their case to the high court, and that they're ready to go all the way to see that their client acheives justice
