Nakaseke Member of Parliament Hon. Semakula Lutamaguzi earlier today bluntantly warned Medical workers who're on a sit-down strike over salary increment issues that while they're reasons for stiking are valid, they should be less expectant because their sector is not the first one to be promised money.
Lutamaguzi had been hosted on a national television talk show where he decried the extremely poor working conditions of doctors in the country. "Medics have strong claims, but they should separate promises from what will actually happen. The country's economy is really low on funds and the few that are available are for a select few big wigs." Said Lutamaguzi.
He went on to breakdwon the trillions of money the country received to help fight the pandemic but till now, no one knows where that money went. "President Museveni borrowed 1bn US dollars from IMF to facilitate front workers and other health related emergencies. The UK and USA governments each gave us 1trillion Ug shillings, USAID and UKAID have been donating billions to us. But till now we're asking where that money went."
The NUP party member informed that the only National Referral hospital in the country (Mulago), was sold off only to leave the country with 5% of it but even that percent, each car that enters the hospital premises MUST pay!
With health workers having to stay very far from their work places and travelling long distances to tend to people yet there used to be houses for health workers, Lutamaguzi continued to express his disappointment in the new government who according to him has entirely milked the country yet it doesn't feed it.
Is Lutamaguzi right about medics not to be as expectant as they are or the government will do something "good" this time round.
