    in summary
Uganda's youth reflect on President Museveni's legacy as the nation prepares to celebrate his achievements on July 5, 2024, at Kololo Independence Grounds. The event, featuring various performances and tributes, highlights both Museveni's contributions and the aspirations of the younger generation for the country's future.

As Uganda gears up to celebrate President Yoweri Museveni's long tenure on July 5, 2024, at Kololo Independence Grounds, a fresh narrative emerges from the youth of the nation.

This event, organized to honor Museveni's achievements since he took office in 1986, is not just a tribute to his leadership but also a reflection of the nation's evolving aspirations, particularly among the younger generation.

Hon. Rose Mary Sseninde, NRM Director of Mobilization, emphasized the significance of this celebration, stating,

"President Museveni's unwavering commitment to Uganda's progress is a testament to visionary leadership. His legacy reminds us that dedicated leaders can shape a brighter future for generations to come."

While the event is expected to draw over 200,000 attendees, including government officials, cultural and religious leaders, and foreign dignitaries, it is the perspective of Uganda's youth that offers a compelling angle on Museveni's legacy.

Aisha Nakimuli, a student from Kampala University shared her thoughts

"President Museveni's tenure has undoubtedly brought stability and development, but as a young person, I also see the challenges we face, such as unemployment and the need for more educational opportunities. This celebration is a moment for us to acknowledge both the progress made and the work still ahead."

Echoing similar sentiments, Kafero John a youth leader in Nabwero, highlighted the importance of youth involvement in the country's future.

"Museveni's leadership has paved the way for entrepreneurial opportunities, but it's up to us, the youth, to build on this foundation.

This event is a chance for us to voice our hopes and aspirations for a more inclusive and innovative Uganda," he said.

Mr. Joseph Kato Sserusiba, the media coordinator for the organizing committee, acknowledged the significance of this event.

"For the many good things the President has done for Uganda, such an appreciation event had not been organized before. This is the right time for Ugandans to say thank you," he noted.

The celebration will feature performances by artists and comedians, providing a festive atmosphere. Gates will open at 6 a.m., with the event streamed live for those unable to attend in person.

Additionally, Ugandans are encouraged to present gifts to the President, with prior notification to the organizing committee for logistical and security purposes.

Youth leader and activist Esther Namutebi emphasized the need for the celebration to inspire future leadership.

"While we celebrate President Museveni's achievements, it's crucial to also focus on the future. Young people must be at the forefront of driving change and innovation in Uganda," she said.

This upcoming celebration at Kololo Independence Grounds is not just a tribute to past accomplishments but a call to action for Uganda's youth.

As they gather to honor President Museveni's legacy, they also look ahead, determined to shape a prosperous and inclusive future for their nation. In the words of Nakimuli,

"Our generation has a unique opportunity to build on the foundation laid by President Museveni. This celebration is a reminder that the future of Uganda lies in our hands."
