The issue of musicians releasing vulgar music has become a raging debate not only amongst music producers and television presenters but also amongst all music stakeholders including various musicians.
Many have been tasked to come out and explain heir songs in detail just to prove that the lyrics they chose for their songs are not vulgar and are coming out to defend their songs, saying that their songs are self explanatory but the issue is with Ugandans who just interpret everything the way they want to interpret it.
One of the people that has always gone hard on stating that his music is misinterpreted by the public is Gravity Omutujju. He stated that his songs are simple and have clear messages but people always interpret what they want to hear instead of what he wants them to hear.
Recently, Lil Pazo's song Enkudi joined the cue of songs that have been termed vulgar. When asked about it, he explained in detail, stating that it is a type of dance where one has to raise their legs high in the air.
Musicians like Kapa Cat have also been told off various times about the same issue and well, Kapa Cat has something to say about this now. According to Kapa Cat, every type of music has a target audience and it is not right for parents to let music that is targeting them be heard by their young children.
Kapa Cat stated that parents also have a responsibility to monitor their children, monitor exactly what they listen to so as to make sure they do not land on the wrong content.
“Why would you let your child listen to vulgar music? Stop them. These are your children and also, you as a parent is responsible for monitoring everything your child listens to so you are not supposed to let your child listen to vulgar music. There is a reason why a house is divided into different rooms. Things that happen in a parent's room should not be known by the children.” She stated.
Kapa Cat was also quick to mention that as an artiste, she knows her target audience but she also knows how to package her songs in that even when they are for an older target audience, they will never sound vulgar to a youngster. She mentioned that she is good at concealing certain words and not making things too obvious and this is what makes her a special brand.
“I know how to work my work. I know how to package my songs. I know I have my own target audience but even when young people land on my songs, it is very hard for them to conclude that my songs are vulgar. This is one of the many things that makes me unique.” She stated.
