We have witnessed the music industry turning from a place where talent dwells to a place where playing tricks and having scandals will make you relevant in the music industry. Musicians no longer strive on their talent but rather, they are always coming up with tricks every now and then, pulling stunts to maintain their status in the music industry.
Every time that the press get a hold of a scandal, immediately after a scandal comes a song. Even for something like releasing music, musicians have been seen pulling stunts just before releasing their music. Most shockingly, it is not just the upcoming artiste s that are resorting to this method but also already established and big name artistes are also opting for this.
Just recently, we witnessed how an upcoming artiste, Bizzy Nateete came out claiming to bee the father to Musician Winnie Nwagi's daughter Destiny Mirembe. He stated that Winnie Nwagi was forbidding him to see his daughter claiming that he is a dead beat father yet he did everything in his power to take care of his daughter.
Later on, he released a song while pleading with Winnie Nwagi to let him show his daughter parental love. Things got out of hand when Winnie Nwagi issued an official statement, saying she was going to sue Bizzy Nateete for defamation and he would face the consequences of his deceit. This is when she also stated that this gentleman is just an upcoming artiste trying to make ends meet while using her name for his own fame.
Music fans have been wondering why musicians have resorted to this kind of setting to release their music because it almost seems as if musicians think their songs will not be appreciated without a stunt for promotion. Musicians tend to believe that Ugandans are very interested in scandals and this has their fans baffled because we have all seen musicians like Karole Kasita and Pia Pounds releasing good music without causing ruckus and this music always trends and is appreciated by their fans.
While speaking to Galaxy TV, musician John Blaq has stated that he knows the reason why certain musicians are resorting to these kinds of cheap tricks. According to John Blaq, when questioned why he thinks stunts are becoming a norm for musicians, he stated that it is because if the high levels of poverty within the musicians.
John Blaq stated that musicians are poor, something that leads them to make ‘foolish' decisions as they are also looking for means of survival.
“The issue is, musicians in Uganda are poor. This means that even when they are actually talented, they will choose to make foolish decisions just because it is the available solution to the poverty they are subjected to.” John Blaq stated.
