In what can be termed as a shocking revelation, Nigerian singer-songwriter Michael Adebayo Olayinka, known professionally as Ruger has said that he has not driven since he experienced a horrifying car accident in 2023.
During his appearance on The Road Show on Cool FM, the afrobeat singer discussed his new music and opened up about the incident.
Ruger confessed that he hasn't been behind the wheel of a car since the accident occurred.
Shockingly, he disclosed that the accident happened while he was driving in Lagos at night. It occurred during a playful moment, and no one was aware of it until now. This is the first time he has spoken about it publicly.
According to the singer, the car flipped over three times, but thankfully, everyone involved was unharmed.
"The last time I drove in Lagos I had an accident. It was at night, we were playing around when it happened and nobody actually knows about it. This is the first time I'm talking about it. The car tumbled like 3 times but everyone was okay. This was last year by the way," he said in the video seen by the reporter.
It's important to mention that Ruger wasn't the only Nigerian celebrity who experienced a car accident in 2023.
Portable, a controversial singer, also had an accident in his new G-Wagon in July.
The incident happened at Osapa London, Lekki, while he was on his way to his music studio.
A video that emerged online depicted a severely damaged car on a busy road in Ogun state, beyond any possibility of repair.
Onlookers, unaware of how the singer managed to survive the accident, were seen capturing the scene with their mobile phones, taking pictures.
Addressing the incident, the singer, who emerged unharmed, urged his fans to express gratitude to God on his behalf and confidently declared that he would replace the luxury car that was wrecked.

Portable, in reference to the car he initially obtained through divine favor, expressed his belief that the same grace would enable him to acquire an even better one.
Additionally, Nollywood actor Kelechi Udegbe was involved in a crash in November 2023. Fortunately, he escaped with minor injuries. According to his manager, the accident occurred late at night on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
Videos and pictures of the aftermath of the accident showed the severe damage to the car, with the rear tires susended in the air.
