15 YEARS LATER: UB40 are Returning to Kampala this December
    • October 19, 2023 • 1 year ago

The iconic British-based band UB40 is set to return to Kampala, promising to set the city ablaze with their timeless music on December 21, 2023, at the Kololo Independence Grounds. Music enthusiasts and fans of the '80s sensation are eagerly anticipating what is sure to be a memorable night of entertainment.

Preparations for this highly-anticipated event are in full swing, as it was officially unveiled last night by Next Media, operating under the NBS TV flagship brand, in collaboration with Talent Africa Group. The two prominent organizations have pledged to deliver an unforgettable experience to Uganda.

The concert, previously teased as the "Next Big Thing," coincides with the NBS At 15 celebrations, offering a grand and festive way to conclude the year.

This groundbreaking initiative is aimed at celebrating, exploring, fostering love, and inspiring hope across Uganda. "The Next Big Thing" concept is aligned with the country's vibrant spirit of celebration, offering a unique opportunity to witness how Uganda unites in joy and festivity.

Joe Kigozi, the Next Media Deputy Group CEO, expressed his excitement for the upcoming celebration, highlighting its importance in the context of "NBS At 15."

"It promises to be a remarkable showcase of Uganda's celebratory spirit, emphasizing the nation's diverse cultural richness and unity," he stated.

Aly Allibhai, the CEO of Talent Africa Group, emphasized the significance of their involvement in this colossal project.

"We're looking forward to being part of this big project. It's a monumental partnership and undoubtedly the biggest event of the year. To see our partnership culminate in something of this magnitude is truly awe-inspiring," he said.

UB40's last performance in Kampala dates back to Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the Lugogo Cricket Oval. That show marked the pinnacle of their 30-year music career at the time and was organized by the telecom giant MTN. Their return promises a nostalgic journey through their chart-topping hits that have spanned generations.

As the countdown begins, anticipation is running high for what promises to be a night of music and celebration like no other. UB40's return to Kampala is expected to reignite the city with a fervor for live music and a showcase of their enduring musical legacy.
