Musician A Pass recently came out to state that the Ugandan music industry needs a little bit of gate keeping simply because many people are now coming out with mediocre music and hey are being given an audience by people.
He stated that it is unfair how musicians treat good music in a bad way only to embrace meaningless songs and make them trend.
“We need a bit of gate keeping in the Ugandan music industry, too much stupid music out here. Anything funny and stupid is now a song. What is the standard ! Back then you had to have something good to be on radio or TV but nowadays all you need is to be viral & boom. Olemwa. We need more good music playing on Radio, Tv and clubs naye Tuswala. How can Ugandan music compete on the world stage with this kind of music ! #TellMe. I am not here talking about what you listen to on the internet. I have been clear in my submission. Some of you need to learn to read. The internet can have as much garbage as it wants but our traditional media should have standards naye Tuswala.” He write via his X.
Well, many people reacted to his message with some supporting him while others were trashing his post. According to A Pass however, there are levels that Ugandan music is not going to reach simply because mediocre music is lifted up while good music keeps getting trashed.
“I don’t know what is wrong with Ugandans. They never want to learn. When you do something beyond their understanding, they never ask about it. They simply put it down and say it is not good instead of trying to understand it.” He stated
A Pass stated that something is definitely wrong with Ugandans as they keep putting down good things yet they are the same people that say their music is not getting recognized and is not hitting it big like Nigerian music is.
He gave examples while stating how Nigerians welcome their musicians' new albums and they promote them even on National TV yet here in Uganda people are promoting mediocre music.
“Ugandans are the ones that trash good music but surprisingly, they are the same people that want Ugandan music to reach the same level that Nigerian music is on. In Nigeria, do you know the kind of music they are promoting? Tems’ new album, Ayra Star's new album. In Uganda A Pass releases a new Album and people ask What is that?” he stated.
