There now 8days since the president sent the country to a total lockdown of 42 days, suspending all public and private transport with exception of essential workers. Among the suspended public transport users were boda boda riders.
These were only allowed to carry cargo and sick people plus pregnant women. Their travel time was lowered to 5pm. However, motorcyclists in different parts of the country have been spotted ferrying passengers, which is against the president's guidelines.
This has prompted Assistant Inspector General of Police Asan Kasingye to come out and talk about the act. "Boda Bodas have again refused to adhere to the guidelines.
The police is also tired of arresting you. We too fear covid-19 and want it to go. But how will it go when you're still carrying passengers when you know very well you're not supposed to?" Said a rather disgruntled Kasingye.
However, motorcyclists insist they are doing so because they don't have what to feed their families and the cargo the president told them to carry is very scarce. On top of that, the motorcyclists say the government hasn't provided any relief towards their sustainability in the lockdown.
