* West accused of orchestrating street protests in the Serbian capital Belgrade.
* The once peaceful protests turned ugly on Sunday evening with the masses throwing stones at the anti- riot police.
* The protests were viewed as the West's move to draw Serbia out of Moscow's circle.
The Russian Ambassador to Serbia accused the west of having a hand in the street protests which he termed as the latest efforts to lure Serbia out of Russia's orbit. Russia accused the west of orchestrating anti government protests that culminated into violence on on Sunday evening in the Serbian capital Belgrade. The Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Butsan- Harchenko said the action was of Europe's latest effort to thwart a so far diplomatic campaign and further break the traditionally strong ties between the two Slavic orthodox nations.
The peaceful protests in Belgrade turned violent and ugly on Sunday evening after protesters tried to storm the City Council building but were however met by rebounds of tear gas from riot police officers. The Russian Ambassador continued to emphasise that there was irrefutable evidence show that the riot had been instigated by the west. Serbia's strongman leader President Aleksandar Vucic said that his government had come under attack from outside forces seeking a colour revolution, a term used by Russia to describe popular revolts that that are part of western conspiracies.
Instead of making Mr. Vucic break with the hardliner Serbian nationalist forces closely aligned with Russia as the Washington had hoped, the election appears to only have pushed him closer to Moscow. The Serbian prime minister Ana Brnabic, a close ally of Vuvic thanked the Russian security forces for sharing information pointing to the western hand in the opposition protests. The continuously divided Europe evidences a change in stance with western Europe trying to challenge what it refers as Eastern authoritarianism which has further created faults in the region and threatened peace in the Balkan region.
