President Joe Biden and Republican Donald Trump have both clinched nominations and are heading for another election rematch after the incumbent Biden had earlier on defeated Trump in the vote cast four years ago which saw the latter lose his White House position that he seems is ready to reclaim.
Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination for president yesterday and setup a possible rematch with Biden who clinched the Democrat nomination earlier on Monday.
President Joe Biden celebrated his status was the party's presumptive nominee in a video posted on X calling it " a time of choosing".
" With your vote, with your power and with your voice we are going to win the November election. " Are you ready to defend freedom? Are you ready to defend democracy?" Come November let's vote in record numbers." President Biden said in a voice out.
Meanwhile Trump's team posted a video on X of the fomer president saying, " This was a great day, a super Tuesday indeed. But now we have a huge task ahead of us and must get back to work because we have the worst president in this country's history. His name is Joe Biden, sometimes referred to as the crooked Biden and therefore he must be defeated in November." Trump said in the video.
The Trump-Biden rematch, very much anticipated but hardly clamoured for is expected to mirror the 2020 campaign despite the fact that Trump will run under a felony of charges the most sounding being the attempt to overturn his election defeat where he instigated his supporters to make an attack on the U.S Capitol building, the only event of its kind in the history of the United States.
Trump is also charged with taking unclassified documents from the White House as well as covering up hush money payments to an adult film star ahead of the 2020 elections.
Despite facing minimal opposition in the primaries with his only rival dropping out and endorsing Biden last week, the incumbent president has constantly made appeals to Americans over the authoritarian behaviours of Trump and has warned of a middling economy should he take over the White House come next year.
President Biden's main opposition has not come from any politicians but from intraparty anxiety over the president's age and from the administration's month's long support for lsrael in its war against Hamas in the Gaza strip.
The president has also come under scrutiny after Special Counsel Robert Hur produced a report indicating that President Biden had mishandled and improperly disclosed classified information after he had left Vice presidency though no charges were placed against him due to minimal evidence to charge him with a crime.
With little drama remaining as to the outcome, Trump and Biden are yet to face off in Georgia where Biden had a 12,000 marginal win, the first democrat win in the state since Bill Clinton in 1992.
