Controversial retirement letters keep storming the FUFA mail box with the recent addition being the one of 33 year old Ugandan and New Mexico United Midfielder, Michael Azira.
Since the end of last week, Ugandan football lovers had been left torn apart after Hassan Wasswa Mawanda a strong pillar of the National team had announced his retirement.
More shock waves filled the country, when his retirement was closely followed by National team Captain Denis Masinde Onyango.
The retirement of Micheal Azira comes at a time when FUFA President Moses Magogo is at loggerheads with National Team players after referring to the unsuccessful CHAN campaign as a result of the players' "shitty football".
Micheal Azira sent a letter dated 14th April,2021 and is quoted saying,
"Please accept this letter as a notification that I wish to retire from playing for the national football team effective April 14, 2021. Playing for the National team has been an honor and I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to represent my country and family."
Prior to joining the professional ranks, Azira was a standout at Lindsey Wilson College before transferring to the University of Mobile for his final college campaign.
The 33-year-old who began his professional career in the USL Championship where he spent two seasons with the Charleston Battery had played 10 games for the National Team and had currently signed for New Mexico United in January 2021.
We wish Micheal Azira all the best in his future endeavours.
