The relationship between the journalists and army personnel seemed to be going great after a friendly football match.
A memoradum of Understanding was also signed between the two parties and the army promised to treat all journalists with love and respect.
All the above events happened on the 16th of April 2021.
However, it seems like empty promises were made and pleas of journalists to be treated with respect fell on deaf ears.
On 28th of April, just a few weeks later, NTV's Teddy Nakaliga and Salt TV's Amon Kayanja were brutally beaten by the army and their equipment was destroyed while covering a demonstration in Kayunga village.
This demonstration was started by residents who have complained of no electricity for more than two weeks hence slow business and loss of money.
Residents of Kayunga saved these two journalists from being killed and tried to help them move away from danger.
First aid, water and food was provided to them.
The battered journalists later on met with Mr. Ssempala Robert, the Executive Director of Human Rights Network for Journalists to file their official complaints on what happened.
Teddy Nakaliga is also pregnant and luckily did not go through severe harm.
Many Journalists especially those that work with Nation Media, the mother group of NTV have come out to condemn these acts
Patrick Kayomonzi, a sports journalist who works with Kfm commented saying "the football match was a waste of time."
The army spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso investigated the matter and has apologized to the journalists once again.
She promised that the culprits will be dealth with and the army shall be taught more on how to handle Journalists and help them while they carry on their work as stipulated by the memoradum that was signed by both Journalists and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
In the past six months, over 60 Journalists have been harmed by both the police and army personnel.
