Yesterday February, 25th an official statement was released on Morgan Heritage’s social media page confirming that their lead singer Peter Morgan has died.
Peter Morgan, lead singer of the Reggae group Morgan Heritage, has died at the age of 47.
The Grammy Award winning-group, known for songs such as Don’t Haffi Dread (To Be Rasta), Down by the River and She’s Still Loving Me, issued the following statement,
"It is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved husband, father, son, and brother and lead singer of Morgan Heritage Peter Anthony Morgan has ascended today…Jah come and save us from ourselves because love is the only way. Our family thanks you in advance for your overwhelming love and support, and we ask for your continued prayers as we go through this process. We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time of healing.”
Morgan Heritage, a band originally from Jamaica is a very popular and well-loved band across the world.
Different artists including the UB40 band group issued a statement mourning the death of Peter Morgan.
"RIP Peetah Morgan.
So very sad to hear that Peetah Morgan, talented lead vocalist of Grammy winning Reggae Band Morgan Heritage, has died of a stroke at the age of 47.
Our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to the Morgan Family and friends.
Rest easy Peetah,your music lives on." statement from UB40's facebook page read.
Also Ugandan musician Bobi Wine mourned the death of Peter.
"It’s sad to learn about the sudden death of Peter Morgan, the lead singer of the Morgan Heritage band. Rest in paradise, Rasta. Jah know." Bobi Wine wrote on his Facebook.
The band consisted of Peetah's siblings Roy 'Gramps' Morgan and Memmalatel 'Mr Mojo' Morgan. Former members include Una Morgan and Nakhamyah 'Lukes' Morgan.
Morgan Heritage's music, under Peter's lead, transcended borders and cultures, earning them a dedicated fan base and numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.
It should be noted the last time reggae sensations Peetah and Mojo of the Morgan Heritage band, were in Uganda, they premiered their album #TheHomeland and held a massive listener’s party at Cielo Lounge in Kampala.
They were in Kampala last year and also collaborated on a song with Chameleon.
