News reaching our desk indicates that the Governor Bank of Uganda Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebire has died this morning at the age of 72 years.
He has been serving as Governor bank of Uganda since 1st January 2001 but was set to retire this year in June on his families request due to health reasons.
Sources close to his family have reported that he was always in and out of hospital due to his tendency to collapse having been caused by Diabetes.
News of his death was first shared by Journalist Andrew Mwenda on his social media pages. According to Mwenda the economist took his last breath at 5:30am this morning.
Mutebire has been battling diabetes from Nakasero Hospital but was also admitted at Nairobi’s Aga Khan Hospital late last year when he was taken in after he had collapsed.
It is a great loss to the country and most especially to his family because we have lost a man of great wisdom. It has been a good 72 years and may his soul Rest In Peace.
