National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine, addressed the public on his non-attendance at the recent Kyabazinga royal wedding, citing frustrations imposed by the regime as the reason for his absence. Speaking at NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule during a gathering to commemorate lives lost in the 2018 Arua by-election, Kyagulanyi shed light on the circumstances surrounding his decision.
The gathering, attended by party leaders, supporters, and the families of victims, featured prayers for those allegedly killed by the regime and those who were abducted or remain missing. Kyagulanyi explained that the commemorative prayers were initially scheduled for Saturday but had to be rescheduled due to the Busoga Royal Wedding.
"I was told that Mr. Museveni, his security, and Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba ordered that I should not attend the royal wedding. As you all saw, I didn’t attend the wedding, but we continue to congratulate Busoga kingdom and wish the Kabazinga and Inhebantu a happy marriage," Kyagulanyi stated.
Despite the change in schedule, Kyagulanyi congratulated the Busoga kingdom for the milestone and extended best wishes to the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, and his Queen, Jovia Mutesi, who became the Inhebantu. He mentioned that he and his team were invited by the Kingdom premier of Busoga, Joseph Muvawala, to attend the wedding publicly, and he made a point to return before the wedding day to participate in the event.
The Kyabazinga's wedding took place at Christ Cathedral Bugembe without any major incidents. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, and featured a procession led by Church of Uganda Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu. The Archbishop emphasized the significance of traditional marriage, celebrating the union of the Kyabazinga and his Queen amid a congregation of political figures, public figures, and royalty from Uganda and beyond.
