The Ghetto gladiator Bobi Wine has disregarded all the artists affiliated with the newly formed Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), led by Eddy Kenzo , closely assisted by Sheebah Karungi, accusing them of pursuing monetary gain above the benefits of musicians attached to the association.
Recently, it was discovered that a group of local artists had gathered and formed the association, UNMF, which will operate under the guidance of Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja. This was an act of breaking away from the Uganda Musician’s Association. The newly formed federation however made it clear that the UMA was to be under their umbrella, something that left musicians divided with questions on which association they should fall under.
In the new federation, Eddy Kenzo serves as the president, accompanied by vice-presidents Sheebah Karungi, Pallaso, and Juliana Kanyomozi.
In his speech however, Bobi Wine urged artists to start working diligently instead of waiting for government handouts. He shared this while addressing young individuals and artists at the new party headquarters in Kavulu, Kampala, during an event known as the National Youth Convention 2023 on Monday, May 22.
Bobi Wine made it clear that instead of waiting on money from the government, musicians can work hard to earn their own money and they should not rely on free money. He mentioned that the federation that was created only focuses on obtaining funds from the government instead of benefitting the musicians.
"Why do you readily accept handouts when you can work hard for yourself? Art is a talent that Ugandans love and support. Therefore, I fail to understand why artists rely on free money! And now, here you are, creating a federation, it's still centered around obtaining funds from the government. I commend those who have consistently remained truthful," Bobi Wine said.
