Probably the best modern day Ugandan artiste Jose Chameleone on noticing how bad things have been for local artistes out there, he has decided to take affirmative action.
Earlier this week , he decided to gang up with artistes such as King Saha to ensure that local music is brought back to ears of all Ugandans. He is on a campaign dubbed, #SaveUgandanMusic. This campaign aims at persuading TVs, Radios together with night clubs to play more local music compared to the international one.
Chameleone himself met with the owners of different clubs and persuaded them to play atleast 70% local music and 30% international music. He met with Club Silk owner Elvis Ssekyanzi who immediately agreed to increase Ugandan music airplay at all his clubs in Bugolobi and Naalya and also gave a written commitment to the artistes(Chameleone and Saha). They then stormed Casablanca owner who also agreed to have 70% Ugandan music played at all his bars. Cayanne, Koko Bar, Riders and Club Play all agreed to follow and comply with the plea.
Jose further added that he already enjoyed the fruits of massive local airplay during his early career in the early 2000s but said this same privilege should be enjoyed by the current generation artistes. Citing how other countries like Nigeria play a lot of local music within them ,he said this is also a must do for Uganda.
