There seems to be growing tension amongst many musicians within the Ugandan Music Industry and the rate at which musicians are holding grudges on each other is increasingly accelerating, something that has turned very worrisome.
Well, Fun Factory comedian, Dickson Zizinga has given his opinion on this issue, confirming that some musicians are paid to attack fellow musicians as well as tarnish these artists’ reputations. While in an interview with gossip monger Kasuku in his show Kasuku Live, Zizinga was questioned about his view on musicians in the industry recieving money from the Government.
"Yes, I agree with them. This is because musicians are unemployed so they need to get all the money that they can to survive. They are jobless so I agree with them taking money from the Government to support themselves." He said
He further emphasized that being a musician is not like it was back then when musicians held big importance and could survive on music alone.
"Being a musician today is not the same as it was being a musician back then. Musicians today have very little to brag about. Am not sure if it's because they are many and they compete with each other or it is because of scarcity." He stated.
Well, Zizinga took it upon himself to explain that ever since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted life, artists turned into beggars as they started feeding on money that they had acquired from different government individuals.
This is when he mentioned that musicians have stopped as low as accepting monetary payments just so they can attack each other and tarnish each other's names. He boldly stated that musicians are paid to attack each other and sometimes their beef is never real or personal but rather a business venture.
He also explained that as comedians they would fill the National Theatre before COVID but lately it is tough to fill the venue despite the situation starting to change so it is understandable that people are also looking for survival in this kind of economy.
"Ever since COVID-19 hit the world, things turned around but previously, we would fill the National Theatre during our show. We can no longer fill this place by the way. That is why you our friends the musicians turned to be beggars. Those established and renowned artists are now beggars, I tell you. It is true. " he said
According to Dickson, back then, musicians were well-behaved people unlike recently as the music industry is facing detoriation since every artist believes they need a touch of violence In order to sell their brand since that is what captures public attention.
