    • September 9, 2021 • 4 years ago

Legislators Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana who represent Kawempe North and Makindye West respectively have been remanded to prison over Masaka murders.

The two have been charged with three counts of murder and one attempted case of attempted murder and are expected back to court on 15th September 2021.

They are accused of being behind the bijambiya group currently terrorizing the people of Masaka and sorrounding areas.

Before being taken to the  magistrates court in Masaka, the legislators were summoned to Masaka Central Police station to record statements about the murders.

They were accompanied by lawyers, Shamim Malende and Erias Lukwago before being released on bond.

    Background:

For close to two months, Masaka city and sorrounding areas have been under a spell of criminality characterized by brutal murders of civilians.

According to Police, atleast 28 people have been so far murdered by the bijambiya clique using pangas and other blunt objects.

Despite heightened security in the area, the murders continue to escalate and the group has started combing Kampala.

Over 70 suspects have been arrested by Police and 12 have been arraigned in court in connection to the murders.

However, opposition believes the arrest of the MPs is diversionary.
